The Export Process¶
Tools → Firecrest → Export MetaHuman opens the exporter window. Every control in it has a tooltip, and these pages lay the same information out in the order you set it: the MetaHuman first, then the mode, then how the character looks in Unity.
How the Controls Read¶
The window is an Unreal details panel, so each row is a name on the left and a control on the right. There are only a handful of control styles, and they look like this:
Through the rest of these pages a control is drawn the way it appears in the window, so CHARACTER is a value you pick from a dropdown and is a checkbox that is on.
The Two Modes¶
The Export row picks what the window writes, and the rest of the panel follows it.
- PER-EXPRESSION OBJs writes a neutral OBJ plus one posed OBJ per expression, the set a rig is built from in Maya or Blender. See Per-Expression OBJs.
- FBX FOR UNITY writes one FBX carrying the expressions as blendshapes, with its textures and ready-made Unity materials. See FBX for Unity.
The window shows only the groups a mode uses, so the panel changes when you switch.
Where Each Group Is Covered¶
| Group | FBX for Unity | Per-Expression OBJs | Covered in |
|---|---|---|---|
| MetaHuman | ✓ | ✓ | The MetaHuman |
| Resolved MetaHuman Data | ✓ | ✓ | The MetaHuman, and its Normal Maps list in Materials & Textures |
| Export | ✓ | ✓ | FBX for Unity or Per-Expression OBJs |
| Expression OBJs | ✓ | Per-Expression OBJs | |
| Unity, Clothes | ✓ | FBX for Unity | |
| Hair, Brows, Eyelashes | ✓ | Materials & Textures | |
| Eyes | ✓ | The Eye Tuner | |
| Output | ✓ | folder only | Output below, the textures in Materials & Textures, GUID Uniqueness in FBX for Unity |
Output¶
Two rows of the Output group apply to both modes.
- Output Folder is where the export is written. Exporting the same character again replaces what the last run left there, so give each version its own folder when you want to keep both.
- Open Output Folder After Export reveals the folder in the file browser as soon as the export finishes. Off, the completion message carries an Open Output Folder button instead.
The group's other rows only apply to the FBX.
Running the Export¶
Press Export at the bottom of the window. A progress bar runs while it works, with a Cancel button that stops it between steps. When it finishes, a message reports what was written. Cancel closes the window without exporting.
Remembered Settings¶
The window remembers its settings between sessions, whether or not you export. Revert To Defaults at the bottom left puts every setting back to the plugin's defaults and forgets the remembered ones. The MetaHuman you picked stays as it is.
