Live

On a live line, from Live Viseme or Live Amplitude, the voice arrives as it plays. There is no bake behind it, so the Prosody driver does not know the words, where the syllables fall, or where a phrase will end. It reads the voice alone, as it comes in, and the brows and the head follow it.

That is a different kind of performance, not a broken one. A live line still moves with the delivery. It answers the voice rather than landing on the stressed syllable, so it reads a little looser than a baked one.

What Changes

Signal is the only drive mode. Emphasis needs the words, so on a live line it is shown greyed out, and Drive Mode offers Signal or None.

No questions or phrase endings. The head lift, the question brows and the gather on a question word all need a question found in the words, and so does the head winding down at a phrase end. None of them plays live.

The voice is judged as it goes. A baked line is read knowing the whole clip. A live line only knows what has been said so far.

What stays the same: the brows lift and settle, the head nods with the voice, and the head drifts side to side through the line, all switched on or off under Enable exactly as on a baked line.

How the Brows Follow the Voice

Brow Drive Mode, under Settings â–¸ Brow, decides when the brows rise.

  • Peak, the default, lifts the brows on the moments that stand out and lets them settle between. Emphasis Source says what stands out: peaks in pitch, the default, or peaks in loudness. Either can read better on a given voice, so it is worth trying both on your character.
  • Absolute Threshold raises the brows whenever the voice climbs above a level you set for this character, for a steadier, more sustained lift. It reads loudness by default, or pitch, and a voice's usual level is personal, so Auto-suggest… works the level out from a sample clip of this character.

Brow Raise Amount is how far the brows go on the strongest moment.

The Head

Head Dip sets how far the head nods with the voice's loudness, and Head Turn how far it drifts side to side.

On a live line both can also be scaled from the Speech driver. Its Live Amplitude settings hold an Amplitude Prosody section, which applies to Live Viseme lines as well, where Head Vertical Amplitude Scale and Head Horizontal Amplitude Scale make the nod and the drift subtler or larger for live lines alone, without touching how the same character moves on a baked line.

Tuning It

The same three things matter as on a baked line: how much the brows raise, how far the head moves, and how quickly each settles back. Start with the brows. A live brow that moves on every small swell reads as surprise, so lower Brow Raise Amount before anything else if a live character looks startled.
